Private H2 Chemistry Tuition

A-Level Private H2 Chemistry Tuition by our JC Tuition Teachers

Are you aware that Chemistry is an increasingly important in the entire A-Level subject combination because it (H2 Chemistry – Syllabus Code: 9647) or (H1 Chem – 8872) is an increasingly important pre-requisite for many faculties such as Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, etc?

Are you like many of the JC students who are equally worried about qualifying for your choice university and preferred majors, and hopefully not settle for a course in which you have no interest in?

So do we, for our A-Level Chemistry home students.

We feel that it is our duty to share and inform all students the exact requirements of the distinction that you covet. After all, the exam for GCE A-Levels in Singapore is NOT easy!

Chemistry Tuition @AceSpecialistHub – A-Level H2 Chem Tutors

Would you like a team of Chemistry tutors who specialise in giving JC Chemistry tuition for Singapore students? How about experienced and qualified tuition teachers who possess great teaching experience in Junior Colleges (JCs), from Anderson Junior College (AJC) , Raffles Institution Junior College (RIJC / RJC) or Victoria Junior College (VJC)?

Unlike many other tuition centres that focus mainly on re-lecturing the topics or focusing more on the multiple choice questions (MCQs, Paper 1), our A-Level Chemistry tutors emphasise more on the higher-order thinking skills, such as application, analysis and evaluation, which you realise, is hardly taught in local JCs.

Our tutors are familiar with the H2 syllabus and requirements and have the necessary breadth & depth of knowledge to help students understand the various Chemistry topics.

(If you take up H1 Chemistry, kindly click here.)

From providing lecture notes for the key topics such as Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry and Organic Chemistry, to offering predictions for the actual UCLES-SEAB A-Level Chemistry Exams, let our Chem tutors’ show you how to be a successful A-Level student, and still enjoy your 2 years of JC life.

Individual JC H2 Chemistry Tuition by our JC Chem Tutors

Of all the Science tuition our JC private tutors conduct at pupils’ homes, Bio and Chem are slightly more popular as compared to that for home JC Physics tuition. In a typical 2-hour lessons, The first 40 mins focuses on learning the key content knowledge, namely, Stoichiometry, Chemical Bonding, Chemical Energetics, etc. The remainder is to focus on the application of these facts, especially in questions set in an unfamiliar and novel fashion.

Yes, it is true that H2 syllabus have evolved from the emphasis of traditional factual materials, to focus more on the understanding and application of scientific concepts and principles. Given the importance of Chem as a prerequisite to the University admission, it has to be set more difficult over time.

(Can you imagine 2000 students who obtain straight As and ALL applying for Medicine, while there is only about 150 available spaces? By the way, in a typical year, the number of straight-A students is only about 4000 pupils, out of a total estimated 18000-20000 A-Level candidates?)

H2 Chemistry Tuition lessons cover on the major sections of Physical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Inorganic Chemistry. There are 10 topics in all, with 8 topics in Physical, and 1 each in Inorganic and Organic Chemistry.

Below is a summary of the Syllabus.

Section A: PHYSICAL CHEMISTRY

Topic 1: ATOMS, MOLECULES AND STOICHIOMETRY
The main content includes the understanding and definition of the term of relative masses of atoms and molecules, the mole and the Avogadro constant. In terms of the exam techniques, A-Level Chemistry students are expected to perform mathematical calculations, with the use of both empirical and molecular formulae.

Topic 2: ATOMIC STRUCTURE
The atomic structure covers in depth content, as n extension of O-Level Chem, that includes the understanding of the nucleus of the atom, the charges of each of the protons, neutrons and electrons, as well as the use of the Periodic Table to deduce and interpret successive ionisation energy data of an element.

Topic 3: CHEMICAL BONDING
This is a straight forward extension of bonding covered during Secondary Science or Chemistry, that studies ionic bonding, covalent bonding and co-ordinate (dative covalent) bonding The ability to sketch ‘dot-and-cross’ diagrams to illustrate the various bonding patterns a re expected of the JC students.

Topic 4: THE GASEOUS STATE
Chemistry candidates must know the meaning of an ideal gas, and its behaviour. Also, they must be able to perform calculations involving pressures, temperatures and volume of gases.

Topic 5: CHEMICAL ENERGETICS
This is an entirely new Chemistry topic, so much content is familiar, such as enthalpy change of formation, combustion, atomisation, etc. Certain chemical reactions lead to exothermic or endothermic energy changes are new concepts too. Besides enthalpy changes, the effect of entropy changes on temperature and phase are required as well.

Topic 6: ELECTROCHEMISTRY
The famous Redox processes, equation and half equations involving electron transfer and changes in oxidation number are examined in detail here. In particular, Chem students will have to demonstrate they appreciate the electrode reactions involving selected elements, especially aluminium and copper, not forgetting the relation between Faraday constant, the Avogadro constant and the charge on the electron.

Topic 7: (CHEMICAL) EQUILIBRIA
As with many other subject disciplines such as Chemistry, Economics and Biology, H2 Chemistry syllabus also study the concept of chemical equilibria such reversible reactions and dynamic equilibrium. Chemistry pupils will have to deduce and calculate expressions for equilibrium constants in terms of concentrations and (partial) pressures, plus the knowledge of the Haber process in the illustration of chemical equilibrium.

Topic 8: REACTION KINETICS
Content knowledge are wide, encompassing simple rate equations, reaction orders; the factors of reaction rate such as concentration, temperature, and catalysts on reaction rate, and finally the various Homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis and enzymes as (biological) catalysts. Lots of application are expected here, such as construction of equation and calculation of first order reactions.

SECTION B: INORGANIC CHEMISTRY
In this section, the H2 syllabus zoom into the Periodic Table to study selected element and their compounds.

Not only do we break the Periodic Table down into its chemical periodicity, we examine in minute details of selected range of elements such as the GROUP II elements (egs are magnesium, barium, etc), GROUP VII range of elements like chlorine, bromine and iodine.

Especially important are the chemical and physical properties of each element. Finally we complete this section of Inorganic Chemistry by rounding up the group of transition elements.

Daily life and real life applications and examples are numerous here, as we look at the formation of alloys for real life use the properties of naturally occurring haemoglobin, and also the use of some of the transition elements and/or their compounds as catalysts in reactions and chemical processes.

SECTION C: ORGANIC CHEMISTRY
Higher Order Thinking Skills In A-Level Chemistry:

a. To be able to predict the reaction products of a given compound in reactions that are chemically similar to the given compounds.

b. To be able to provide the skeletal formula for organic compounds and its derivatives,

c. To predict whether halogenation will occur in the side-chain or aromatic nucleus in arenes depending on reaction conditions

d. To analyse and deduce the nature (aldehyde or ketone) of an unknown carbonyl compound from the results of simple tests (i.e. Fehling’s and Tollens’ reagents; ease of oxidation)

e. To apply the knowledge of the loss and formation of secondary and tertiary structures of proteins to interpret common everyday phenomena.

Our H2 Chem tutors have diagnosed the entire syllabus to pre-empt the setting of the Chemistry exam paper by UCLES-Cambridge, with high degrees of success. More details to be given in the JC Chem tuition individual lessons.
